In 2018, Kazakhstan decreased grain production to 20 mln tonnes

In 2018, the general harvest of grains and pulses totaled 20.28 mln tonnes, a decrease of 1.5% compared with the previous year, reported the Statistics Committee at the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan on February 11.

At the same time, in 2018 the average yield of grain crops slightly increased compared with the previous year to 1.35 t/ha, against 1.34 t/ha.

In particular, in the current season wheat production in the country decreased to 13.9 mln tonnes, against 14.8 mln tonnes last year. It should be noted that the final figures significantly reduced compared with the level, forecasted by many leading global experts. Thus, the USDA analysts expected the harvest of wheat in Kazakhstan at 15 mln tonnes. In 2018/19 MY, the yield of the Kazakh grain totaled 1.23 t/ha, down 1.2% compared with the previous season.

As for barley, in 2018 the harvest volumes reached its new historical maximum at 3.97 mln tonnes, against 3.3 mln tonnes in 2017. At the same time, the upward trend mainly developed, due to expansion of the areas under barley, because the yield figures decreased from 1.6 t/ha in 2017, to 1.58 t/ha.

Within frames of the second international conference "KazGrain-2019" (April 4-5, Astana), the global and Kazakh experts will cover the main components of the harvest-2018 and the further prospects of the grain market of Kazakhstan in the new season in more detail.

You can take part in discussion of the reporting topic and other issues of the Kazakh and global grain markets by registering for participation in the conference.
