In 2018, the planted areas under mustard seed in Russia demonstrated the most significant upward trend among all oilseed crops. According to the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat), the planted areas under the oilseed totaled 338 thsd ha, an increase of 2.2 times compared with the figures in the previous year, when the areas declined to the long-term minimum level.
In particular, in the Volga Federal District the areas significantly increased to 126.3 thsd ha (up 2.8 times), so that the District reached the first position by the areas of mustard seed, and topped the Southern District — 114 thsd ha (up 81%).
According to APK-Inform estimations, the harvested areas under the oilseed totaled nearly 290 thsd ha (up more than 2 times), and the yield figures slightly decreased — down 4%, to 0.69-0.7 t/ha, but the figures still exceeded the average level of 3 previous years (0.59 t/ha).
Thus, APK-Inform Agency estimated the production of mustard seed in Russia in 2018 at the record level of 200 thsd tonnes, up over 2 times compared with the previous year.
